Lawyers and notaries
Parklaan Rotterdam. A property set in a private park in the New-Historic style of 1925. The villa is connected to the newly built wing that was built as an extension to the current office. Almost 4,000 m2 of work space.
WISHES OF THE CLIENT
After twenty-five years, we feel it is time for renovation that matches our partnership practice. Our office has eleven partners and about 80 employees. We truly cherish this location and would really like to stay here.
A traditional office with ‘pinstripe suits’ scattered about – a solid and reliable basis. “Bring them into the 21st century while ensuring they stay true to their heritage,” was my first thought.
In collaboration with project manager Custom Office, we developed a renovation plan that would enhance the style and ambience of the original property. I designed a very discreet plan using a serene colour scheme of browns and greys. The listed staircase was given a starring role and became the backdrop to the extensive art collection. The materials and colour scheme of the staircase were carried through into the new building, reflecting the character of the old villa here too.
A new LED light design made considerable savings on energy consumption.
HARBOUR BARONS AND INDUSTRIALISTS
Parklaan is one of the most prestigious addresses in Rotterdam. It was once home to Rotterdam harbour barons and industrialists. The villa was originally built for a member of the Jamin family and is, together with the bridge, a listed building. For the past 25 years it has been home to the ultra-chic lawyers and notaries of Schaap & Partners.
