Renovation project of an old villa 

THE BUILDING
The originally detached house is somewhat hidden in a walled garden at walking distance of the beach. The house was built at the beginning of the 1960s as a home/studio for an artist. It has a surface area of 400 m2 in 2 layers, a swimming pool and a large garden.

THE CLIENT’S REQUEST
We have been coming to this area for years and have a strong connection with it. This house has potential but it needs to be renovated to meet what we want from a holiday home. As many friends and family come to stay it must be practical, both in terms of use and in terms of maintenance. But we do want to keep that Spanish vibe.

CONCEPT
Creating a vibe is often done through small things. Less is more. The characteristic light. The use of certain materials, a curve, a well chosen object. An ‘echo’ is often enough to create a feeling.

We will remove the walls on the ground floor to join the interior gallery and the living room. This will create one large living area with space for a kitchen and a large table that is at the heart of the house. We will rotate the living room by 180 degrees to connect it directly with the garden and swimming pool. Just what you want for a holiday home.

As life is largely lived outside, we will build a space in the shade with an outdoor kitchen in the furthest corner of the garden. From here, there is an attractive view of the house. New bathrooms will be built upstairs. Everything will be streamlined and the layout rearranged. Arched entrances upstairs will create the characteristic Spanish atmosphere.

RESTORED PORTICOS AND GARDEN
The house has several porticos where you can pleasantly dine, relax or enjoy the sunset. The neglected garden and the porticos will be restored with great care. The old Canariensis palms will be given more space so that they can grow to their full beauty.
